INCORPORATED SOCIETIES

Whangārei Netball Centre is an Incorporated Society committed to transparent and effective governance that supports the growth and sustainability of our netball community.

As an Incorporated Society, we exist to serve our members and promote the game of netball across the Whangārei region. Our role is to provide safe, inclusive, and quality opportunities for all involved — players, coaches, umpires, volunteers, and supporters.

Incorporated Societies Act 2022

Whangārei Netball Centre is currently working through the process to comply with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022, which replaces the 1908 Act and introduces a modern framework for how incorporated societies are governed in New Zealand.

What’s Changing?

The new Act is designed to ensure societies are run in a more transparent, accountable, and legally robust way. Key changes include:

  • A new constitution that meets updated legal requirements
  • Defined officer duties and eligibility criteria
  • Dispute resolution processes
  • Clearer member rights and obligations
  • Annual return and financial reporting obligations

All existing incorporated societies including Whangarei Netball Centre must re-register under the new Act by 5 April 2026.

What This Means for Whangārei Netball Centre

Whangārei Netball Centre is committed to ensuring we meet the new legal obligations and continue to operate with integrity and accountability. Over the coming months, we will:

  • Review and update our constitution
  • Provide information to our members about the changes and what it means for them
  • Submit our re-registration before the 5 April 2026 deadline

Non-compliance could result in deregistration, impacting access to funding, facilities, and legal protections.

CONSTITUTION REVIEW & MEMBER INPUT

We will be engaging with members during the review of our constitution to ensure it reflects our values, community needs, and the future of netball in our region. A draft of the updated constitution will be made available for feedback before it is voted on at a Special General Meeting (SGM).
