It is with deep sadness that Whangārei Netball Centre acknowledges the passing of Delwyn Baird.
Delwyn’s contribution to netball in Whangārei spanned decades. She first joined the Whangārei Junior Netball Committee around 2003, representing Onerahi Primary School. In 2004, she was elected to the Whangārei Netball Association Senior Executive, where she served until 2014.
Throughout her time in our community, Delwyn dedicated herself to coaching and umpiring, always with a special passion for developing junior players. Many young athletes experienced their first netball seasons with Delwyn’s guidance and encouragement, and she had a gift for nurturing both skill and confidence on the court.
Beyond her netball administration, Delwyn was a long-serving teacher at Manaia View School, where she championed opportunities for her students.
Delwyn’s commitment, warmth, and generosity of spirit left a lasting mark on our netball community. She was respected by her peers, admired by players, and cherished by the many families whose children she supported.
On behalf of Whangārei Netball, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Delwyn’s whānau, friends, colleagues, and all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the many players whose lives she enriched through netball.
Rest in peace, Delwyn. Your passion and contribution to netball will always be remembered.
