NetballSmart: Empowering Whangārei's Netball Community

 News

The Whangārei Netball Centre is excited to announce the latest developments in NetballSmart, Netball New Zealand's official injury prevention and performance enhancement programme. With updated workshops and resources, NetballSmart aims to support players, coaches, and umpires across our community.

What is NetballSmart?

NetballSmart is an evidence-based framework designed to enhance performance and reduce injury risk in netball. It encompasses six key principles:

  • Smart Preparation: Preparing the mind and body before hitting the court.
  • Dynamic Warm-Up, Cool Down & Recovery: Implementing effective routines to optimise performance and recovery.
  • Smart Movement: Developing correct skills and techniques for safe play.
  • Smart Training: Ensuring the body is prepared through appropriate loading, endurance, strength, power, and flexibility training.
  • Smart Player Well-being/Welfare: Focusing on the holistic health and well-being of players.
  • Smart Injury Management: Early identification, assessment, and reporting of injuries.

By integrating these principles, NetballSmart supports athletes in performing at their best while minimising the risk of injury.

Workshops Available to the Community

The Whangārei Netball Centre offers a variety of NetballSmart workshops tailored to different groups within the netball community:

  • Player Workshops: Focusing on injury prevention, movement skills, and performance enhancement.
  • Coach Workshops: Providing tools and strategies to integrate NetballSmart principles into training sessions.
  • Umpire Workshops: Enhancing understanding of player movement and safety to inform officiating.

These workshops are designed to be interactive and practical, ensuring participants can apply the knowledge directly to their roles.
